CROSS COUNTRY
CHAMPIONSHIPS

It's Autumn, it's cold...must be cross country season.

The club takes part in the Gwent League series and is a great introduction to off road running...trust us, you might enjoy it!

What's the deal with cross country?

The John H Collins Gwent Cross-Country League is one of the largest leagues in the UK, drawing more than 60 clubs from across South Wales and South West England.

Men generally run one distance of c.9- 10km, women and vet men 65+ cover distances ranging from c.6k - 7km.

With 5 races spread over 5 locations during Autumn & Winter, everyone has a favourite course. Cross country is a really social affair with runners of all ages taking part...we'd encourage everyone to give it a go at least once. Pace isn't important but the willingness to get a bit muddy or a bit wet on a Saturday afternoon is essential!

Q. what does 'M'/'LM' and 'V' refer to ?

We sometimes refer to Masters (M) and Ladies Masters (LM) categories as (V) Veterans categories which are basically age grouped classifications for those members of the club over the age of 35 (and that's a fair few of us). There is a British Masters Athletics Federation (BMAF) as well as Welsh Masters Athletics (WMA) website. Check them out if you want to find out about 35+ competitive running.

5 races in the series from october to march across south wales, bristol & bath

Veteran age categories for men and women with separate races for males and females (v65 run in the female race)

spikes or trail shoes recommended pending how muddy and wet the course is
