Rack Raid - In a Nutshell!

Updated: Jun 10

Big up to all our runners who competed in the popular relay race on the weekend; and if you weren't there, this is what you missed! All photos are now on our photos gallery

It was the first time Tom, Neil, Becs and Nadine competed in a team event where every second of the leg you run counts towards the cumulative total and they did us proud!

1.Hannah started us off at Grosmont Castle at 7.30am before nipping off for some breakfast as the heat took hold of the day. Tom had almost 7 miles to do for the second stage from Skenfrith but enjoyed his undulating leg.

2. Niall set off from White Castle and down the initial hill to Abergavenny before climbing a monster hill at halfway.

heat, what heat?!

3. Nadine seemed to enjoy heading into Moat, where she was still looking remarkably fresh for a 6.7 mile stage as she posed for Rob Gale’s camera. Lucy ran a solid 8 mile leg into Monmouth before a well earned pint in Chepstow later on.

4. Joey had a 12 mile stage starting at 11.20 and like most others didn’t have a great deal of shade to hide in, but he did manage to sneak a place in the last few hundred metres.

5. Meg T ran a fantastic leg from Raglan to Usk, finishing 4th in the process and making up some time on our competitors.

6. Neil was up next, running one of the hardest stages of the day with 13 miles into Tintern on a hilly course with three separate long climbs.

7. From there, Androo galloped into Chepstow after some initial horsing around (think Godfather) with a solid performance.

8. All eyes were on Del as she set off towards Caldicot on a 6.6 mile leg before Simon took over for an 8.4 miler into Penhow which had a nice downhill finish after a truly terrible looking hill before it.

9. Becs put her brand new trainers to good use as she bounced along the A48 briefly before some sights of Celtic Manor, finishing in Caerleon.

10. The metaphorical baton was handed over to Rowena for the final leg into Castell-y-Bwch for the final 5.4 miles before the pub enticed people for refreshments and the regaling of the day’s stories.

Logistically, the team were helped by Rhys & Laurie as well as Ron with a well oiled car sharing plan. Thanks to Del for organising the team and Nadine for stepping in during the week to fill a gap!

Thanks to Fairwater-Runners-Cwmbran for a great Rack Raid 2024!
