Award of Honour for exceptional service goes to Ron

It's with great pleasure as a club to see the support and acknowledgement of one of our longest standing club members, Ron Morris at this year's Welsh Athletics Awards Evening.

It was a special night on the 1st of November as the club headed to the Welsh Athletics Annual Awards dinner at the Parkgate Hotel.

The highlight, of course, was the award given to Ron who has been the most influential and enduring club member of San Domenico RC.

Ron was honoured to receive the Award of Honour based on recognition for over 25 years active service to the sport at club, schools and regional level in Wales. This award gives Ron induction as life member to Welsh Athletic. During the evening, speakers remarked about:

Ron playing a pivotal role in the development of Welsh Athletics from cross country, road running, track and fell
Competing as a high level athlete
Serving as President of the South Wales Regional Council where Ron has been instrumental in organising events and supporting athletes and fostering community engagement

For us as a club, words cannot describe the sheer commitment and devotion Ron shows to keeping the San Dom spirit alive. Injured or on top form, he's always at club nights, time keeping, organising and keeping everyone on their toes, whatever the weather. His years on the committee are unsurpassed and he continues to play a key role in shaping and leading not just the clubs 10 and 20 Mile races but all club activities including Castle Relays and Rack Raid teams.

He is the most brilliant leader and back up man too - collating random kit left at training nights, transporting runners to relay legs even with almost impossible logistics and barriers, having the club's largest 'spare room' storing kit, water containers, signs, cones and bags as well as the best stopwatch skills known to man. In fact, the only thing he hasn't done (as far as I'm aware) is to home bake, but hey, no one's perfect. He leads the club on age group races as well as holding some eye watering times from 5k upwards, there's nothing Ron can't do.

This is only a brief mention but as a club, we are hugely grateful and very proud to have Ron on the team! Go Ron!
