Welsh Castles Relay - Day 2

Big up to all our runners who competed Welsh Castles Relay legs on day 2, travelling from Newtown to Cardiff!; All photos are now on our photos gallery

The second day started early with a 7am mountain stage for Kev who finished 38th out of the 60 teams in a heavily contested front where the first 3 broke the 2023 course record.

Finishing in Crossgates was Rob for Stage 12, coming home in 13th place.

Dan L ran into Builth Wells in 29th place as Harry W prepared for his first Drovers experience. Another mountain stage, and possibly the hardest, he came 20th where both male and female records fell.

Paul J finished joint 12th with a Bromsgrove & Redditch runner to get the highest position of the weekend, running Epynt Visitor Centre to Brecon.

Meg T ran the mountain stage of 16 into Torpantau finishing 44th as Rob B came 14th into Merthyr.

Chris Medcalf left the Merthyr Leisure village along part of the San Dom 20 mile course, coming 27th as John L took on the penultimate stage 19 of Abercynon to Caerphilly coming 17th whilst a number of the club who didn’t run came along to help marshal the stage with some of the runners.

The “Glory Leg” was the responsibility of club chairwoman Del, who came 42nd giving the club a total time of 22:44:38 which was good enough for 19th overall.

Not bad for a small club of less than 80 members! It was also an improvement of 52 mins on the 2023 time and only four minutes behind 2019’s time where we came 12th overall.

Thanks to Meg for organising, those who helped out with driving logistics and those marshalling stage 19. It was great to be joined by so many 🇨🇷 in Bute Park at the end to celebrate 🎉 and share a few 🍻

Thanks to Les Croupiers for the event!
